VPBank has signed a USD 27 million loan agreement with JBIC, SMBC, and Joyo Bank to finance EVNNPT’s 220 kV power transmission line project. The financing will strengthen power transmission capacity and help integrate renewable energy output in southern Vietnam.

Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank) has signed a loan agreement with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and co-lenders Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and The Joyo Bank, Ltd. VPBank will provide the financing to the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) for the development of a 220 kV transmission line, helping increase the capacity to receive and transmit electricity generated by renewable energy projects in southern Vietnam and facilitating the integration of clean power into the national electricity grid.

The signing marks a concrete step from the green finance cooperation framework to the financing of a specific project and underscores VPBank’s role as a bridge between international financial institutions and Vietnam’s domestic infrastructure investment needs. Through its cooperation with JBIC, SMBC, and Joyo Bank, VPBank continues to expand its capacity to mobilize funding for key infrastructure projects supporting Vietnam’s energy transition.

Mr. Kamijo Hiroki, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of VPBank and Head of the Foreign Direct Investment and Transaction Banking Division, said: “The signing of our first project loan with JBIC under the cooperation framework established between the two institutions demonstrates VPBank’s long-term commitment to supporting essential infrastructure projects that advance green growth and Vietnam’s energy transition. We believe that effectively mobilizing international capital will contribute to modernizing the national power system and supporting the country’s sustainable development goals.”

The USD 27 million financing from VPBank will support EVNNPT in expanding and upgrading the transmission system and increasing its capacity to integrate renewable energy, in line with the revised Power Development Plan VIII. It will also help connect international financial resources with Vietnam’s need to modernize its power infrastructure.

The financing is implemented under JBIC’s GREEN operations and is also aligned with the Government of Japan’s POWERR Asia initiative, which aims to strengthen cooperation with Asian countries toward enhancing the resilience of energy and resource supply chains.Through this cooperation, the financing will support Vietnam in developing sustainable energy infrastructure and achieving its emissions-reduction targets.

As one of Vietnam’s pioneering banks in sustainable finance, VPBank is committed to expanding cooperation with international development finance institutions. Through these partnerships, the Bank diversifies its medium- and long-term funding sources and supports green projects, essential infrastructure, and initiatives that accelerate the transition to a low-emission economy.

As of the end of the first half of 2026, VPBank’s outstanding green credit reached VND 59 trillion, an increase of more than 50% from the end of 2025. This result demonstrates the continued expansion of funding allocated to green sectors, providing a foundation for the Bank to strengthen financing for clean energy and essential infrastructure projects.
