The convenience and widespread use of credit cards make them a prime target for fraudsters, who employ increasingly sophisticated schemes to steal money from accounts. Despite ongoing safety warnings from regulatory authorities and financial institutions, many cardholders still fall victim to these scams.
No matter how many credit cards you carry, what your credit limits are, or what types of transactions you usually make, as long as you know these key TIPS by heart, you will always be SAFE when using your cards
SHOULD |
✅ ALWAYS CHECK the transaction details on your receipt before confirming payment, and keep the receipts for future reference |
✅ CAREFULLY MONITOR the card payment process and your spending at merchants (restaurants, supermarkets, cafes, etc.) to avoid the risk of your card information being stolen or exposed. |
✅ COVER THE KEYPAD with your hand when entering your PIN, and never store your card and PIN together. |
✅ Keep your card information ABSOLUTELY CONFIDENTIAL during use or when entering payment details online. Consider disabling the online payment feature on your credit card when it’s not in use |
✅ ADJUST YOUR DAILY MAXIMUM TRANSACTION LIMIT to suit your actual needs. |
✅ KEEP YOU OTP SECURE: Choose the Out of Band (OOB) authentication method instead of receiving OTP codes via SMS to enhance your security. |
SHOULDN'T |
❌ NEVER allow others to borrow, use, possess, or manage your card. |
❌ NEVER store or share copies of the front and back of your card. NEVER take photos or save images of your card on your phone or send them via social media. |
❌ NEVER let the cashier take your card out of your sight. Always complete the payment in front of you and within your control. |
❌ NEVER choose a PIN linked to your personal information or disclose your PIN to others. NEVER write down or display your PIN on the card. |
❌NEVER provide your card information (card number, expiration date, PIN, CCV/CVV code), OTP, personal information, or passwords under any circumstances to anyone, including bank staff. |
